When to Visit for the Best Value
Peak season (late June through Labor Day) brings the warmest water and the biggest crowds. Rates are highest and beaches fill up early. If this is your window, book well ahead.
Shoulder season (May, early June, September, and October) is the sweet spot. Rates drop, traffic thins out, and the weather is still excellent - September ocean temps are actually warmer than June. Most restaurants and attractions are open through October.
Relax Inn is open from April through mid-November, so you have a wide window to find the right balance of weather and value.
Free Activities Near Relax Inn
Englewood Beach is three minutes from our door with free parking - no sticker required. For Barnstable town beaches like Craigville and Kalmus, parking is free after 3:45 PM, which gives you a full evening at the shore.
Cape Cod Rail Trail: 25.5 miles of paved cycling and walking, completely free. The trailhead in Dennis is a 15-minute drive. See our outdoor adventure guide for route details.
Cape Cod Baseball League: Free admission to every game, all summer. Watch future MLB players at fields across the Cape. Schedule at capecodbaseball.org.
Chatham Fish Pier: Watch fishing boats unload their catch in the afternoon - free and fascinating. Combine it with a lighthouse drive to Chatham Light.
Save on Food
Every room at Relax Inn has a mini-fridge and microwave, so you can stock up and save. Shaw's supermarket on Route 28 is less than two miles away - grab breakfast supplies, sandwich fixings, and drinks for the beach.
Budget-friendly restaurants we recommend: Craigville Pizza serves generous slices and subs. KKatie's on Main Street in Hyannis does hearty breakfasts and lunches at fair prices. Brazilian Grill on Main Street offers all-you-can-eat grilled meats - a real value for big appetites.
Save on the Islands
A day trip to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket doesn't have to be expensive if you plan ahead. Walk on the ferry instead of bringing your car - you'll save significantly on the ticket and avoid vehicle reservation headaches.
Once on Martha's Vineyard, the VTA bus connects all towns for a $7 day pass. On Nantucket, the NRTA Wave shuttle is completely free and runs to all major beaches. Both islands are flat and bikeable, with rental shops near each ferry dock.
