Cape Cod Shopping: The Mall, the Factory, and the Main Streets

Cape Cod Mall is 1.7 miles from Relax Inn, a 6-minute drive. The Cape Cod Potato Chips factory is 3 miles away. Hyannis Main Street boutiques are 5 minutes down Route 28.

West Yarmouth Is Your Base Camp

Relax Inn sits on Route 28 in West Yarmouth, putting the Cape's best shopping within easy reach. Cape Cod Mall is 1.7 miles west. The Cape Cod Potato Chips factory is 3 miles away in Hyannis. Hyannis Main Street boutiques and the Route 28 retail strip are right outside the door. Free parking at the motel means you can load up the car and come back for more.

Cape Cod Mall

The only enclosed shopping mall on Cape Cod. Take Route 28 west to Iyannough Road and you're there in 6 minutes. 769 Iyannough Road, Hyannis. Open year-round, free parking.

Anchor stores: Macy's, Target, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Best Buy cover the big-ticket bases. Everything you need for a beach trip you underpacked for.

Clothing and retail: J.Crew, H&M, American Eagle, Express, Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works, and 70+ additional stores spread across two levels. A proper mall, not a strip center.

Food and entertainment: A full food court and Regal Cinemas on-site. Add a movie and you've got a complete indoor afternoon. The right call when Cape Cod weather doesn't cooperate.

From Relax Inn: head west on Route 28, turn right onto Iyannough Road. The mall is on your right. About 1.7 miles, 6 minutes without summer traffic.

Cape Cod Potato Chips: Grab a Bag Before You Leave

Cape Cod Potato Chips are one of the most recognized things to come out of the Cape. For years, the Hyannis factory printed a map of Cape Cod on every bag, and Relax Inn sat close enough to that map to appear on it.

The Hyannis factory closed in early 2026, but the chips are very much still a staple. You'll find them at Stop & Shop in Yarmouth Crossing (less than a mile from the motel), at most grocery and convenience stores on Route 28, and at gift shops throughout Hyannis. The "White Cheddar" and "Sea Salt & Vinegar" varieties are the Cape Cod classics worth bringing home.

If you're looking for a comparable local food experience, the Cape Cod Candy Company and several local fudge and confectionery shops on Hyannis Main Street fill that gap well.

Hyannis Main Street: Boutiques and Local Shops

Hyannis Main Street is 1.2 miles east of Relax Inn. Free 2-hour municipal parking is available on the street and in the lots behind the shops. It's a walkable stretch with galleries, gift stores, clothing shops, and a few Cape Cod institutions.

Puritan Clothing has been on Main Street since the 1950s. It's where locals go for Cape Cod sweatshirts, hats, and souvenirs that aren't the tourist-trap version. Solid quality, fair prices, a genuinely good stop.

Cape Cod Lobster Trap carries the standard souvenir inventory plus a good selection of nautical gifts. Several independent galleries along the block are worth a slow walk if you're shopping for art.

If antiques are on your list, Route 6A through Yarmouth Port and Brewster is the real destination: a 20-minute drive north with dozens of antique dealers along a stretch of historic highway.

Commercial shopping strip along the mid-Cape Route 28 corridor in West Yarmouth and Hyannis

Route 28: Everything You Need, No Highway Required

Route 28 is the commercial spine of the mid-Cape. Relax Inn sits on it, which means grocery stores, beach gear, and everyday supplies are within a mile in either direction.

Yarmouth Crossing is the closest plaza, with a Stop & Shop, TJ Maxx, and several chain stores. Good for groceries, beach supplies, and whatever you forgot to pack. Less than a mile from the motel.

Christmas Tree Shops started on Cape Cod. The location near the Hyannis line is one of the originals: household goods, seasonal decor, snacks, and novelty items at discount prices. A Cape Cod institution worth the stop even if you're not in shopping mode.

Ocean State Job Lot is the practical choice for cheap beach gear: towels, chairs, umbrellas, coolers, and outdoor supplies. Most guests end up here at least once.

Rainy Day? Cape Cod Has You Covered

Cape Cod weather shifts fast. A gray morning is not a lost day. The best rainy-day options happen to overlap perfectly with the best shopping, which is either by design or very good luck.

Cape Cod Mall

Fully enclosed, 80+ stores, food court, and a movie theater. The classic rainy-afternoon move. Add a Regal Cinemas matinee and you've got 4 hours covered.

Hyannis Main Street Shopping

Boutiques, galleries, and gift shops that stay open rain or shine. Grab coffee, browse Puritan Clothing or the gift shops, and walk at your own pace without sunscreen pressure.

JFK Museum and Hyannis Shops

The John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum on Main Street is 45 minutes of well-done history. Pair it with coffee and a slow walk through the boutiques while you wait for the clouds to clear.

Route 6A: The Antique Highway

If antiques, vintage finds, or New England craft are what you're after, Route 6A is the answer. The Old King's Highway runs through Yarmouth Port, Dennis, Brewster, and Orleans, lined with antique dealers, artisan studios, and independently owned shops that have been there for decades.

From Relax Inn, head north from Route 28 to Route 6A. It's a 15-minute drive to Yarmouth Port, the first stretch worth slowing down for. Plan 2 to 3 hours to work your way east through Brewster.

Notable stops along the way include Parnassus Book Service in Yarmouth Port (a used bookshop operating since 1956), multiple antique centers in Dennis and Brewster, and pottery and glasswork studios scattered throughout.

It's a different pace than the mall strip, but for serious browsers it's the best shopping day on the Cape.
